MARKET PLACE OF IDEAS

One of the districts that is using Kid Compass has a board policy that says, “any child reading below grade level at the end of first grade either attends summer school or is retained.” For the Director of Summer School, this task of identifying all the students who need either intervention is a time consuming and difficult task. To make a confident decision for each potential student, one should look at all students who are scoring below grade level at the end of the year. For further analysis, one should run assessment histories on each student to discover if the student has a pattern of below average assessment scores, or has fallen below level just recently. This knowledge could sway your decision between summer school or retention.
